Giriraj Singh Backs PM Modi’s Fuel Duty Cut; Targets Opposition Over Price Claims

Union Minister Giriraj Singh commended the Centre’s decision to reduce excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 10 per litre. The move lowers the central tax on petrol to Rs 3 per litre and effectively removes duty on diesel.

The government introduced the measure to ease pressure on consumers facing elevated global fuel costs.

Singh asserted that the administration led by PM Narendra Modi remains committed to public welfare and constitutional values. He criticised non-NDA governments, particularly in West Bengal, alleging their failure to support citizens during challenging circumstances.

Giriraj Singh also launched a sharp attack on opposition leaders. He accused them of disseminating misleading narratives regarding fuel supply.

The Minister stated that India depends on fuel imports and credited the Prime Minister’s leadership for maintaining stability. He described remarks by Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav as irresponsible.

Industry analysts, however, cautioned that the duty reduction may not significantly lower retail fuel prices. They indicated that oil marketing companies could retain much of the benefit to offset financial losses.

Earlier, Rahul Gandhi warned that fuel prices could rise after the Assembly elections. He pointed to a weakening rupee and higher industrial fuel costs as potential triggers.

Rahul Gandhi argued that increased production and transport expenses would strain MSMEs and dampen investor confidence. He further alleged that households continue to bear the burden of flawed economic management.

The excise cut follows rising crude oil prices and persistent inflationary pressures, placing fuel affordability at the centre of economic and political discourse.
