Union Minister Giriraj Singh on Sunday strongly criticised Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, accusing him of questioning the bravery and credibility of the Indian armed forces by demanding proof of the damage caused during Operation Sindoor.
Speaking to reporters, Singh alleged that Kharge’s remarks undermined national security and mirrored Pakistan’s narrative, particularly in the wake of Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan’s statement rejecting Islamabad’s claims of downing six Indian jets.
Go Ask Pakistan for Evidence: Giriraj Singh
Condemning Kharge’s statement, Singh said, “It is unfortunate that the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha is from Congress and is raising such questions. If they still want proof of Operation Sindoor, they should go to Pakistan and ask for evidence. Pakistan is unable to provide any, and yet Congress continues to seek proof of the armed forces’ valour.”
Defending the operation, Singh said it was executed in response to the targeted terrorist attacks in Pahalgam, and praised the Indian armed forces for conducting precision strikes that avoided civilian casualties.
“Unlike Pakistan, we carried out surgical strikes against terrorists without harming civilians. The world is applauding India for this approach,” he added.
Minister Alleges Kharge Is Undermining India
Singh accused the Congress chief of damaging India’s global image and playing into the enemy’s hands.
“Kharge is speaking Pakistan’s language. He should be ashamed of making such statements while holding the position of Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha,” Singh remarked.
Kharge Calls For Special Session & Defence Review
On Saturday, Kharge demanded that the Centre convene a special session of Parliament in light of General Chauhan’s recent interview in Singapore, where the CDS ruled out Pakistan’s claims as ‘absolutely incorrect’.
The Congress leader also urged the government to initiate an independent review of India’s defence preparedness, similar to the Kargil Review Committee, to ensure military readiness.
Top Defence Officials Reaffirm India’s Position
General Anil Chauhan categorically denied Pakistan’s claims about shooting down Indian aircraft. Additionally, Air Marshal AK Bharti, Director General of Air Operations, reassured that all Indian Air Force pilots returned safely and emphasised that losses are a natural part of any combat situation.
