From Apples To Saffron: PM Modi Celebrates India’s Agricultural Innovations

During the 121st episode of his monthly radio show ‘Mann Ki Baat’, Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated India’s progress in green initiatives and innovative agricultural practices.

PM Modi also urged citizens to participate in the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, which has led to over 140 crore trees being planted across the nation.

PM Modi Leads Green Revolution:’Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’

Prime Minister Modi encouraged citizens to plant trees in the name of their mothers as part of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative.

PM Modi highlighted the campaign’s success in raising awareness for environmental conservation, with citizens planting trees to combat climate change.

The campaign will complete its first year on World Environment Day, June 5, and has inspired people globally to engage in this noble cause.

PM Modi shared the inspiring transformation of Ahmedabad, Gujarat, where more than 70 lakh trees have been planted in recent years.

The efforts have significantly increased green cover and improved the city’s climate resilience.

Additionally, the city has made strides in water conservation, with new water bodies like Kankaria Lake revitalised as part of the River Front development on the Sabarmati River.

Agricultural Innovation In Karnataka & Kerala

The Prime Minister showcased agricultural innovations in Karnataka and Kerala, emphasising how local farmers are adapting to climate challenges.

PM Modi shared the inspiring story of Shail Teli from Bagalkot, Karnataka, who succeeded in growing apples in the plains, where temperatures typically exceed 35°C.

PM Modi praised Teli’s persistence, which has turned apple farming into a profitable venture.

In Kerala, PM Modi highlighted the successful saffron cultivation in Wayanad using Aeroponics, an advanced technique that involves growing plants without soil.

This innovation marks a significant expansion of saffron cultivation beyond traditional regions like Himachal Pradesh.

Saffron & Litchi: Spreading To New Regions

PM Modi also touched upon the success of saffron cultivation in Kinnaur’s Sangla Valley, as well as the increasing cultivation of litchi in regions outside traditional growing areas.

He applauded Thiru Veera Arasu from Tamil Nadu, who transitioned from coffee cultivation to growing litchi in Kodaikanal, and Jitendra Singh Ranawat from Rajasthan, who successfully cultivated litchi in his region.

Message Of Innovation & Persistence

The Prime Minister concluded by stressing that these stories reflect the power of innovation and persistence.

PM Modi urged citizens to take pride in their achievements and continue pursuing new opportunities, demonstrating that with determination, the impossible can become possible.
