Prayagraj: Former Samajwadi Party candidate Amarnath Maurya chased away Municipal Corporation officers with a rifle. The officers arrived to remove illegal encroachments from a park in Pritam Nagar, Dhoomanganj police station area. The police have filed an FIR against Maurya and his unknown supporters.

Dispute Over Land Use

The Municipal Corporation aimed to clean land adjacent to the STP in Pritam Nagar Colony, where locals organize an annual Ganesh Puja lasting nine days. Maurya opposed the cleaning efforts, claiming the land belongs to him and is enclosed with a boundary, supported by documents. In contrast, the Bhartiya Kisan Union argues that the land is part of Vivekanand Park and hosts the Ganesh Puja every year. They accuse SP leaders of forcibly occupying the land and blocking its cleaning.
