Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri concluded his one-day visit to Dhaka on Monday. He met with Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor of the Interim Government of Bangladesh, and expressed India’s concerns regarding the safety and welfare of minorities in Bangladesh.
Earlier in the day, Misri met Bangladesh’s Foreign Affairs Advisor Touhid Hossain and held Foreign Office Consultations with Bangladesh’s Foreign Secretary Jashim Uddin. Misri highlighted India’s support for a stable, democratic, and inclusive Bangladesh. He reaffirmed India’s desire for a constructive relationship, based on mutual trust and respect.
Misri emphasized that people are the core of India-Bangladesh relations. He pointed to India’s development cooperation and engagements, particularly in connectivity, trade, power, energy, and capacity building, which benefit the people of Bangladesh.
During the consultations, lasting nearly two hours, both sides discussed political, security, and economic issues, as well as cooperation in water, power, and energy sectors. They also exchanged views on regional integration, including under the BIMSTEC framework.
Misri’s visit aims to sustain bilateral engagement and address mutual concerns. He reiterated India’s desire for continued positive cooperation and highlighted development projects in Bangladesh as examples of ongoing collaboration. Misri also reminded the media of high-level contacts between the two nations following political changes in Bangladesh in August.
The Foreign Secretary expressed hope for further constructive exchanges, following engagements between the leaderships of both countries in recent months.
