Model of Floating Changing Room
The Yogi government, which is paving the way for the rejuvenation of the religious Ganga river and the pilgrimages situated on its banks, is now going to expand a new facility for the devotees. In fact, the Dashashwamedh model of the floating changing room, which was successful in Varanasi, will now be implemented on a large scale so that devotees do not face any inconvenience in changing clothes after bathing in the river Ganga.
On July 7, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone for the construction of changing rooms on floating jetties at 6 ghats of Kashi. It is worth mentioning that floating changing rooms are already being operated under a pilot project at Dashashwamedh Ghat in Varanasi, which has been used by 4 lakh people since June 2023. In view of this success, arrangements are now being made to provide floating changing rooms at other major ghats as well.
Public will not have to face uncomfortable situations
Women and men used to feel uncomfortable in changing clothes after bathing in the Ganges at the ghats of Kashi. In order to remove the hindrance of not having space on the ghats, it is being built in the water so that the devotees coming from faraway places do not have to face any problems. From June 2023 till now 4 lakh people have used the floating changing room built in the pilot project at Dashashwamedh Ghat. Looking at its public utility, a floating jetty changing room is being constructed. The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the floating changing room built at Dashashwamedh Ghat.

Previous Governments did not pay attention
After bathing in the Ganga, devotees used to get very upset due to the lack of a proper place to change clothes. The earlier governments did not pay heed to this need of the devotees. Whereas, the Yogi government is determined to solve all these problems. While giving information, the Chief General Manager of Varanasi Smart City, Dr. D. Vasudevan said that as a pilot project, a floating jetty changing room was built at Dashashwamedh Ghat. Now floating jetty changing rooms will be constructed at 6 more ghats at Rajendra Prasad Ghat, Assi Ghat, Shivala Ghat, Rajghat, Kedar Ghat and Panch Ganga Ghat at a cost of Rs 5.70 crore. Each floating changing room will have separate changing rooms for 10 women and 10 men.
People are getting benefits of floating changing room
The Chief General Manager said that for the convenience and safety of the pilgrims taking bath, a jetty was ready at Dashashwamedh Ghat in June. More than 5 thousand devotees are using this changing room daily. While 55 thousand people used it in the last Ganga Dussehra. Starting from June, more than 4 lakh people have taken the facility of this floating jetty changing room. In such a situation, keeping in view the success of the pilot project and its public utility, a plan has been given to install it at 6 more major ghats.
