Jhansi: A fire, suspected to have been caused by a short circuit, engulfed several kiosks, including a furniture store, in the Barua Sagar police station area. The blaze destroyed goods such as shoes, slippers, furniture, and groceries, reducing them to ashes. Two motorcycles parked in the furniture shop, as well as household items, met the same fate. Fire brigade vehicles rushed to the scene upon receiving the report and managed to bring the fire under control after extensive efforts. However, by that time, all the merchandise stored in the kiosks had been consumed by the flames.
The owner of the furniture store, who resided in the same premises with his family near Company Bagh, narrowly escaped the fire, which reportedly started from a short circuit earlier in the day. As the fire escalated, it spread to adjacent shops selling shoes, slippers, groceries, and other items, resulting in a complete loss of inventory. Despite the arrival of half a dozen fire tenders, the inferno ravaged everything in its path.
Tragically, the incident occurred on the Teravhi (the thirteenth day after a funeral) of the furniture operator’s mother, adding to the family’s devastation. The estimated loss from the fire includes goods worth five to six lakhs belonging to Dharmendra Vishwakarma, Ashok, Kishori, Harcharan, Vijay, and Anurag alias Kallu Aggarwal. Dharmendra, who owned a furniture shop, had been residing there with his family for many years. The police have initiated an investigation into the cause of the fire.
