The Economic Survey, a key pre-budget document, will be presented in Parliament by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman at 12 PM on Friday.
This presentation comes just a day before the highly anticipated Union Budget 2025-26.
The survey will be introduced in the Lok Sabha at noon and in the Rajya Sabha at 2 PM.
It has been prepared under the guidance of Chief Economic Advisor V Anantha Nageswaran. The survey includes insights from the Ministry of Finance’s Department of Economic Affairs.
The Economic Survey provides an overview of the current economic conditions and forecasts for the coming fiscal year. It is also an important indicator of the expected tone and priorities of the Union Budget.
The presentation will mark the beginning of the Budget Session in Parliament, which runs until 4 April.
A break in the session will take place from 14 February to 10 March.
Each year, the Economic Survey theme carries weight, influencing proposed policies in the Union Budget. The theme for 2024 focused on economic resilience.
In the lead-up to the Union Budget, a Cabinet meeting will typically be held, where the Prime Minister and Ministers review the Budget before formal approval.
Before the Union Budget is presented, President Droupadi Murmu will address a joint sitting of Parliament at 11 AM on Friday.
Finance Minister Sitharaman will then table the Economic Survey in both houses of Parliament.
Sitharaman will also present the Union Budget on Saturday, marking her eighth consecutive year in the role.
The Budget Session will be divided into two phases, with the first concluding on 13 February and the second beginning on 10 March.
