Encounter Erupts Between Security Forces And Terrorists In Jammu & Kashmir’s Bandipora District

On Tuesday, security forces and terrorists clashed in an encounter in the dense Nagmarg forest area of Jammu & Kashmir’s Bandipora district. The confrontation began as joint security forces launched a search operation in the valley, acting on intelligence reports of suspected militant activity in the area.

Encounter in Nagmarg Forest Area

As the search teams advanced toward the suspected hideout, terrorists opened fire indiscriminately on the security personnel, triggering an intense exchange of gunfire. “The intermittent firing is ongoing in the area,” officials reported, confirming the situation remains active.

This incident marks the fifth consecutive encounter in recent days across various regions of Jammu & Kashmir, including Bandipora, Kupwara, and Sopore, and follows a previous clash in Kishtwar district. That earlier engagement saw one soldier from the army’s 2 Para unit killed and three others injured.

Search Operation in Kishtwar Enters Day Six

Meanwhile, a large-scale search operation in Kishtwar district entered its sixth day on Tuesday. The operation was initiated after two Village Defence Committee (VDC) members, Kuldeep Kumar and Nazir Ahmad, were abducted from Ohli village and later killed in the nearby Keshwan forest area.

The VDCs, formed from local villagers and equipped with police-provided arms, play a key role in protecting remote communities from terrorist threats. In response to the escalating violence, J&K police are enhancing VDC capabilities, equipping them with automatic weapons and providing improved self-defense training.

Heightened Tensions Amid Civilian Support for Security Forces

The increased further attacks on VDC members and unarmed civilians in districts like Kathua, Doda, Kishtwar, Poonch, Rajouri, and Udhampur reflect growing frustrations among terror handlers across the border. As civilian populations in these remote areas maintain strong ties with the army and security forces, particularly in times of natural disasters or medical crises, terrorists perceive the local communities as allies of the security establishment.

This recent spate of violence highlights the ongoing challenges in Jammu & Kashmir as security forces work to stabilize the region amid mounting cross-border tensions.
