Election Commission Mandates Voter ID Verification For 2024 Lok Sabha Elections in Amethi

Voters will be required to prove their identity at the time of voting to prevent impersonation in the Lok Sabha General Election-2024.

District Election Officer Nisha Anant of Amethi has stated that, as per the decision made by the Election Commission of India, voters will be required to prove their identity at the time of voting to prevent impersonation in the Lok Sabha General Election-2024.

Voters must present their voter photo identity card or any one of the 12 alternative photo identity documents to prove their identity. The 12 alternative documents include Aadhaar Card, MNREGA JOB Card, Passbook with a photo issued by banks/post offices, Ministry of Labour Health Insurance smart cards issued under the scheme, driving license, PAN card, smart cards made by RGI under NPR, Indian passport, pension documents with photo issued by the Central/State Government/PSU/Public Limited Companies to their employees, Service Identity with Photo, Government Identity Cards, and Unique Disability ID (UDID) cards issued by MPs/MLAs/Legislative Council Members under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India.

Additionally, the Election Commission of India has instructed the distribution of voter slips through BLOs at least 5 days before the polling date for the convenience of voters. While the voter slip will mention essential details such as the polling place, date, and time, it will not be considered as the sole identity document of the voter. It will be mandatory for the voter to bring any one of the alternative photo identity documents along with the voter slip to prove his identity.
