Election Commission Implements GPS Tracking for Polling Vehicles in West Bengal

An official from the Election Commission has announced the decision to implement a GPS location tracking system in all vehicles designated for polling purposes in West Bengal. According to the official, communication regarding this initiative has been dispatched to the poll workers.

The purpose of installing the GPS tracking system is to monitor the movement of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and other polling materials from the distribution/dispersion center and receipt center (DCRC) to the polling stations on the day prior to the elections. Additionally, it aims to ensure the integrity of the materials as they are transported to the strong room after the polling process.

In the event of any discrepancies, the poll body has instructed the administration to take immediate action. This includes questioning the drivers of the vehicles involved and the staff responsible for handling the EVMs.

In other developments, Arnab Chatterjee, previously serving as Joint Secretary in the School Education Department, has been appointed as the new Joint Chief Electoral Officer, succeeding Rahul Nath, according to an official order.

The forthcoming seven-phase Lok Sabha elections in West Bengal are scheduled to commence on April 19.
