Eight Women Fall Ill After C-Section Surgeries At Rajasthan Hospital

Rajasthan’s healthcare system is facing renewed scrutiny after eight women reportedly suffered medical complications following Caesarean deliveries at Pawta District Hospital in Jodhpur.

The development follows the recent maternal deaths reported in Kota, intensifying concerns about the quality and safety of post-delivery care across the state.

Hospital officials stated that the women underwent C-section surgeries on Saturday before showing signs of health deterioration afterwards.

In response to the incident, administrators suspended operations in the hospital’s operating theatre and ordered a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the cases.

Medical teams have collected samples from surgical facilities and healthcare supplies to assist in determining the source of the complications.

SN Medical College Principal Dr BS Jodha confirmed that two women whose conditions became critical were transferred to Mathuradas Mathur Hospital for specialised medical attention.

The remaining six patients continue to receive treatment under close observation at Pawta District Hospital.

According to officials, one woman experienced severe post-surgical bleeding, while another patient with diabetes suffered a sharp decline in blood pressure.

The Jodhpur cases have revived memories of the recent Kota tragedy, where investigators alleged that Oxytocin injections administered after childbirth were counterfeit.

Preliminary findings in the Kota case suggested that the injections contained water instead of the intended medication, preventing effective control of post-partum bleeding and contributing to five maternal deaths.

Health authorities have urged people not to link the two incidents until investigators complete scientific testing and submit their findings.

Investigators are exploring several possible causes, including infection, surgical complications, substandard medicines, and other medical factors.

The investigation team will identify the cause of the complications and determine whether the incident reflects a broader healthcare concern or remains an isolated case.
