Education Expert Nitin Vijay Advocates Discipline As Key To Preventing Student Suicides

In the midst of the series of tragic suicides in Kota, Rajasthan, Nitin Vijay (also known as NV sir), an education expert and physics teacher, has weighed in, emphasizing the need for students to approach their competitive exam preparation with disciplined diligence.

While interacting with India Today, Nitin Vijay, the real-life inspiration behind the popular web series “Kota Factory,” expressed his concerns regarding the diminished resilience of students to cope with mental stress, particularly in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic.

He went on to explain that a domino effect has been set in motion among students following the Covid-related lockdown. This trend involves students exerting excessive pressure on themselves even when their hard work doesn’t yield immediate success.

Nitin Vijay underscored the importance of students adopting a disciplined work ethic akin to that of committed labourers. He highlighted the remarkable dedication of students who dedicate 12 to 15 hours per day to their studies, asserting that such an approach guarantees eventual success in life, regardless of their performance in competitive exams.

The education expert also directed a plea to parents, urging them to send their children to Kota solely if their aspirations align with pursuing careers in engineering or medicine.

The statistics paint a grim picture, with authorities reporting a distressing count of 22 student suicides in the year 2023 – an alarming record. This number represents a stark rise from the previous year’s figure of 15.

In response to these tragic events, Kota’s authorities took action on August 18 by instructing coaching institutes to suspend routine testing for students preparing for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) and other competitive exams for the next two months. This decision comes in light of the unfortunate suicides among aspirants.

Kota, known as a coaching hub, attracts over two lakh students annually who converge here to prepare for competitive exams like the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) for engineering institutes and the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) for medical colleges.
