Swami Chaitanyanand Claims Threat To Life In Tihar; Court Seeks Jail Report By November 18

Swami Chaitanyanand Saraswati, currently in Tihar Jail on charges of sexual exploitation, told the Patiala House Court that he fears for his life while in custody.

Following his statement, Judicial Magistrate Animesh Kumar directed the Tihar Jail Superintendent to submit a detailed report by November 18.

The court will hear Chaitanyanand’s plea concerning alleged threats and jail conditions on the same date.

In his petition, Chaitanyanand alleged that the jail authorities neither provide him a secure environment nor respect the rights granted to him by the court.

He informed the court that the jail has not provided him with his saffron attire despite three separate orders. He added that the attire is his right under the court’s permission.

Authorities presented Chaitanyanand before the Patiala House Court after his previous judicial custody expired. The court extended his judicial custody by 14 days.

Earlier, his lawyer withdrew a bail petition. He said that authorities had already filed the charge sheet and that his team would plan their legal strategy after reviewing it.

The court approved the withdrawal of the petition.

Police investigation revealed that Chaitanyanand possessed fake photographs of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former US President, President Barack Obama, and a British leader, along with several other images.

Authorities also discovered that he had stayed with students at a guest house in Almora, Uttarakhand.

Digital evidence recovered from Chaitanyanand’s phone showed him making objectionable comments on photos of female students in a WhatsApp group.

During the investigation, Delhi Police seized a sex toy and five pornographic CDs from his room.

The court was informed that authorities added charges under Section 232 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against Chaitanyanand. The charges accuse him of intimidating witnesses to give false testimony.

Additionally, FIRs have been registered against him under IPC Sections 75(2), 79, and 351(2).

The ongoing investigation highlights the severity of the case, while the court’s orders aim to ensure the safety and legal rights of the accused during judicial custody.
