ECI Finalises Tamil Nadu Poll Preparations With Over 75,000 Booths Ready

Ahead of voting for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections on Thursday, the Election Commission of India has completed extensive groundwork across the state, aiming to ensure a smooth and orderly polling day.

Officials indicated that preparations have been centred on ease of voting, robust infrastructure and close supervision.

More than 75,000 polling stations have been readied, each staffed with trained teams to manage voter turnout efficiently.

To strengthen oversight, micro-observers will be stationed at every booth, tasked with monitoring proceedings and flagging any issues instantly. Authorities believe this layer of supervision will help maintain transparency throughout the process.

Efforts are also underway to assist voters before they reach polling stations. Voter Information Slips are being distributed so electors can verify their details and locate their assigned booths without difficulty.

Polling centres have been equipped with essential facilities, including drinking water, shaded waiting spaces, toilets, lighting and wheelchair-friendly access. Seating will be arranged at intervals to support senior citizens and differently-abled voters standing in queues.

In addition, information posters explaining voting procedures, candidate details and required identification will be displayed prominently. Help desks will be available at each location to guide voters and assist them in finding their names on the electoral roll.

Directional signs are being installed along routes leading to polling stations to make access easier. Mobile phone deposit counters will also be set up outside booths, where voters must leave their switched-off devices before entering.

With campaigning now over, the state has entered the mandatory silence period.

The Commission has said all arrangements are being closely reviewed to ensure polling is conducted peacefully and without disruption.
