Prayagraj: Today, drug addiction among the youth is a serious and sensitive problem, due to which many diseases are spreading among the youth. The tendency of drug abuse among the youth is increasing day by day. The above views were expressed by the keynote speaker, Professor SN Shankhwar, Director, Institute of Medical Sciences, IMS Kashi Hindu University, in the subject related to Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) under the auspices of the Social Sciences Branch of Uttar Pradesh Rajarshi Tandon Open University.
To bring awareness among the public, a one-day online national webinar on de-addiction on the topic ‘Increasing trend of drug addiction among youth: Problems and solutions’ was organized on Friday.
The keynote speaker explained the various reasons why people are becoming addicted to drugs and how it is affecting the physical and mental levels of people. He threw light on various aspects of its prevention.

He said that it is the duty of all of us to create awareness about drug de-addiction, especially in educational institutions, and to develop a healthy society to protect the youth from these evils. Calling upon the youth to stay away from drugs, he said that the youth are suffering from various types of physical and mental disorders due to its consumption.
He said that educational institutions and various NGOs can play an important role in this direction. In his presidential address, the Registrar of the Open University, Colonel Vinay Kumar said that today the trend of drug abuse has increased among the youth, which is very worrying. He underlined its social and psychological reasons. In the end, he said that it is the duty of all of us to make the youth aware of the increasing drug use and its effects.
The program was conducted by Organizing Secretary Dr. Manoj Kumar and the vote of thanks was given by Prof. of Social Sciences Vidya Branch, Sanjay Kumar Singh. Vice Chancellor Professor Seema Singh thanked the organizing board for the success of the webinar. On this occasion, all the directors of the university, directors in charge, teachers, coordinators of regional centers, consultants, research students, and others.
