At a well-attended event held at the Constitution Club in New Delhi, Rajya Sabha MP and former Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Dr Dinesh Sharma underscored the importance of integrating the ancient Indian ethos of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam—the world is one family—into modern economic management.
He stated that such an approach could shape a model of ‘spiritual economics’ rooted in Indian philosophical traditions like Integral Humanism, as proposed by Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay.
The occasion marked the launch of the book Samabhav aur Arthashastra, authored by renowned Chartered Accountant Kamalkant Jain.
The event drew a diverse and distinguished audience, including IAS officers, chartered accountants, legal experts, doctors, company accountants, and other intellectuals.
Dr Sharma elaborated on the contrast between Indian and Western models of wealth management.
He pointed out that spirituality has always played a subtle but crucial role in Indian economic thought.
While acknowledging the practical necessity of money in today’s world, he cautioned against treating it as the ultimate goal.
The book, divided into five comprehensive chapters, has been designed for easy and reflective reading.
Dedicated by the author to his mother, the work reflects emotional depth and a holistic worldview.
Dr Sharma described the core theme of the book as mamatva—a nurturing and inclusive approach that considers the needs of all, big or small.
He encouraged readers to explore the book not only for professional learning but also to adopt balanced economic practices in personal life.
Dr Sharma praised the book’s emphasis on human welfare, environmental conservation, and the protection of living beings—core aspects of Indian life philosophy.
He observed that although economics, spirituality, and philosophy are often viewed as separate disciplines, the book demonstrates how they converge at a higher intellectual and ethical plane.
He urged individuals to strive toward this point of intersection.
Tying the discussion to Indian ideological roots, Dr Sharma referenced Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay’s Ekatma Manav Darshan (Integral Humanism), which promotes economic ethics, social equality, and collective responsibility.
He remarked that genuine economic development must focus on inclusive progress and the well-being of society at large.
The event witnessed the presence of several prominent figures, including Justice Dr DK Arora; IAS officers Sanjeev Mittal, Nitin Gokarn, Sanjeev Arora, Dr Tanu Jain, and Balvinder Kumar; RERA Punjab Chairman Rakesh Goyal; former MP Dr Sanjay Paswan; and former MLA Krishna Singh Sirohi, among others.
