L-G Sinha: PM Modi Delivered On Syama Prasad Mookerjee’s Vision For J&K

Jammu & Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha observed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has fulfilled Syama Prasad Mookerjee’s dream, 66 years after the latter’s martyrdom.

At the 125th birth anniversary celebration held at Tagore Hall, Sinha emphasised Mookerjee’s aspiration for active participation from the people of J&K in India’s development trajectory.

“Today, India is making exponential strides in its development journey to achieve his (Mookerjee’s) other resolves of building a strong, united, and developed India,” the L–G remarked.

He described Mookerjee as ‘a visionary statesman, educationist and fearless parliamentarian’ whose ideals continue to shape the destiny of India.

Honouring a martyr for constitutional integration

Manoj Sinha underlined Mookerjee’s enduring legacy as a champion of national unity and his opposition to Article 370.

“Syama Prasad Mookerjee sacrificed his life for the unification of J&K with India. His martyrdom in Srinagar while fighting for J&K’s complete integration remained a defining moment in the nation’s history.”

To honour this legacy, Jammu & Kashmir has launched a two-year celebratory campaign.

The initiative seeks to illuminate Mookerjee’s contributions through exhibitions in schools, theatrical performances, and public discussions, reinforcing the ideals of ‘One Nation, One Constitution’.

Sinha highlighted that the developments in J&K since August 2019 echo Mookerjee’s vision, guided by Prime Minister Modi’s resolve.

“The achievements of J&K post‑August 2019 are guided by the dream of Syama Prasad Mookerjee and the resolve of PM Modi.”

He stressed the importance of discrimination-free governance and complete integration.

Encouraging youth to sustain the legacy

Addressing the younger generation, the L–G appealed, “The new generation should actively engage in honouring his legacy. Week‑long exhibitions in educational institutions and theatrical performances depicting his life’s journey should be organised.”

Revisiting Mookerjee’s earlier roles, Manoj Sinha noted, “Mookerjee was the chief architect of India’s industrialisation. He laid the foundation of a self‑reliant India.”

He further encouraged J&K to follow this model of economic self-sufficiency.

Concluding with solemnity, the L–G reflected on Mookerjee’s final moments in Srinagar, stating that ‘the entire J&K is indebted to him’.

He reiterated that the ongoing developmental narrative of Jammu & Kashmir stands as a tribute to his sacrifice.
