Kanhaiya Mittal, a well-known devotional singer, has recently made headlines with his decision to join the Congress party. Mittal’s move comes after he was denied a BJP ticket from Panchkula, Haryana.
From Bhajans to Politics
Kanhaiya Mittal first gained fame with his popular hymn, ‘Jo Ram ko laye hain, hum unko layenge,’ which went viral, amassing over 30 million views in just a week. Mittal, born on September 21, 1990, in Chandigarh, initially aspired to become a civil servant. Despite his challenging childhood and financial struggles, he found success in devotional singing, particularly dedicated to deities Khatu Shyam and Salasar Balaji.
Starting his singing career at age seven, Mittal performed bhajans for free for 15 years. His first bhajan, ‘Kabhi Ram bankar kabhi Shyam bankar chale aana Prabhuji chale aana,’ marked the beginning of his journey.
Political Shift and Public Statement
Mittal’s recent political shift has stirred discussions. He announced his entry into the Congress party following the BJP’s refusal to grant him a ticket. In a social media address, Mittal stated, “I don’t want any particular party to talk about Sanatan.” He further clarified on X, “It is wrong that the BJP denied me the ticket from Panchkula and that is why I am joining Congress. I hold no grudges against the BJP. I believe that the Sanatana Dharma can be spread from every party and not only from one party.”
