Sniawbhalang Dhar - optimistic attitude
Meghalaya deputy Chief Minister and the Transport minister Sniawbhalang Dhar has clarified that Meghalaya railway projects will go ahead no matter how much the resistance come from. An implementation of railway lines on the picturesque Khasi-Jaintia Hills region is on the cards.

The proposed railway lines in the Khasi Hills region, notably the 22-kilometer Tetelia-Byrnihat tracks and the 108-kilometer Byrnihat-Shillong line, have encountered substantial challenges, resistance from various groups, including influential pressure groups. Due to these resistances the state government has redirected its focus towards assessing the feasibility of railway connectivity in the East Jaintia Hills District. However, this shift has also encountered resistance from the public.

Dhar clarified that no conclusions have been reached so far. A meeting involving the stakeholders will be conducted and only then any final decision can be taken. While realising that these protests are not usual he stressed the need to spread awareness of the benefits and the developments the railway can bring to the state.
The transport minister has also said that an open dialogue will be held with the stakeholders. “If we still face the resistance then we won’t be left with any other option but to stall the project,” he said.
