A 24-year-old woman has been apprehended by the Delhi Police Crime Branch for committing a heart-wrenching crime. She allegedly strangled her boyfriend’s minor son, Divyansh, in his sleep as she perceived him to be a hurdle in her relationship with her partner. Subsequently, she stuffed his body in a bed box, said the officials on Tuesday.
After the arrest, Pooja Kumari, a resident of Ranhola, admitted to killing the 11-year-old while acknowledging her guilt. She held Divyansh accountable for his father not divorcing his wife, the police affirmed. The accused was in a live-in relationship with Jitender, a resident of West Delhi’s Ranhola.
Pooka Kumari was taken into custody on Sunday in Bakkarwala. The police received information about the child’s demise from BLK Hospital on August 10 where they were informed that the boy was brought dead and had marks of strangulation around his neck.
During the investigation, the officials examined 300 CCTV installed across several locations. Consequently, it transpired that the last person who visited the child’s house was Pooja, said the Special Commissioner of Police (Crime), Ravindra Singh Yadav. After strangling the boy to death she concealed his body inside the bed box and fled the crime scene.

Pooja had been eluding the police till now. After searching her parent’s as well as relatives’ houses they zeroed in on possible hideouts and launched a search to arrest her.
The police mentioned that Pooja was reportedly married to Jitendra. They got hitched at a temple of the Arya Samaj on October 17, 2019. Since Jitendra was an already married man, a court marriage was not possible for them. Therefore, Jitendra assured Pooja that he would get a divorce from his first wife and marry her at a court. However, he backed off from his promise and started to live with her wife from December 2022. In a fit of rage, she asked a friend to take her to Jitendra’s house and killed Divansh in his sleep.
