Delhi Waqf Board Case
In the ongoing Delhi Waqf Board recruitment irregularities case, a significant development has occurred with a preliminary decision on 10 individuals, including Amanatullah Khan from the Aam Aadmi Party, delivered at the Rouse Avenue Court. Subsequently, the Rouse Avenue Court has opted to extend the Enforcement Directorate (ED) custody for an additional day for three more accused individuals: Zishan Haider, Daoud Nasir, and Javed Imam Siddiqui. This extension is attributed to the unavailability of Special Judge Vikas Dhull.
The ED’s decision to prolong custody raises questions, with Javed Imam’s legal representation opposing the move. Javed Imam’s lawyer emphasized his client’s active cooperation in the investigations since October 2022. Additionally, concerns were raised regarding Daoud Nasir’s health, citing his visits to RML hospital. Language difficulties faced by Daoud Nasir during ED questioning were also highlighted.

It’s noteworthy that due to the absence of Special Judge Vikas Dhull, these three accused individuals were presented in the court of Link Judge Geetanjali Goel. The ED custody extension is slated for one day, and the accused will be brought before the relevant court tomorrow.
Adding a layer of complexity, Javed Imam’s legal defense argued against the extension, presenting the court with details of his extensive participation in the investigations. Daoud Nasir’s health concerns, leading to hospital visits, were raised as a pertinent issue. The defense further asserted that language barriers impeded effective communication during ED questioning.

In response, the ED’s legal representative contended that these accused individuals have a tendency to level allegations against the investigating agency whenever they are brought before the court, adding a layer of complexity and dispute to the ongoing legal proceedings.
