CBI presents Sub-Inspector accused of Bribery in Delhi Court
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), following a two-day interrogation of Delhi Police officer Rajesh Yadav, brought him before Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court today. During the proceedings, CBI urged the court to extend the judicial custody of the accused officer. The District Judge, presiding over the case, granted a 14-day extension to the judicial custody of Rajesh Yadav. It’s noteworthy that CBI had previously questioned Rajesh Yadav during his initial two-day judicial custody.
At the culmination of the two-day custody period, CBI presented Rajesh Yadav in court today, seeking an extension of his judicial custody. The court responded by remanding the accused to judicial custody for an additional 14 days.
Apprehended for Accepting a Bribe of 4.5 Lakhs
The critical development in this case is the apprehension of Delhi Police Deputy Inspector Rajesh Yadav, caught red-handed accepting a bribe of 4.5 lakhs. CBI apprised the court that another accused, Varun Chichi, is currently on the run, and efforts are underway to apprehend him. The implicated officer is stationed at the Barakhamba Road Police Station. According to CBI, the case traces back to 2018 when the agency filed charges of cheating against Nirmal Singh Bhangoo, the Managing Director of a real estate firm, accused of not delivering a flat after accepting 1.2 crore rupees. In connection with this, Delhi Police officials had allegedly demanded a bribe of 25 lakhs to refrain from taking legal action.
Complaint from a Pearl Company Employee
The CBI’s action leading to the arrest of Deputy Inspector Rajesh Yadav stemmed from a complaint filed by an employee of Nirmal Singh Bhangoo’s Pearl Company. The complainant alleged that Yadav visited the police station to provide medicine to Nirmal Singh, during which certain police officers threatened his daughter and son-in-law, demanding a bribe to avoid entanglement in the case. This information prompted the complainant to approach the CBI, ultimately resulting in the arrest of Rajesh Yadav while in the act of accepting a bribe of 4.5 lakhs.
