The Delhi Traffic Police has issued an advisory as the Yamuna water level rises, increasing the risk of floods.
At 7 a.m. today, the water level in the Yamuna River was 208.46 metres, as the Hathnikund barrage in Haryana continued to dump water into the river. The water level is currently three metres above the danger mark.
The Arvind Kejriwal government had sought the central government to intervene and block the barrage’s water discharge, but the central government responded that excess water from the barrage had to be released.
The Delhi Traffic Police issued an advisory this morning advising commuters to avoid certain routes due to traffic congestion on some roadways.

According to the Delhi Traffic Police, traffic on the Ring Road is being hampered due to an overflow of sewer water near the IP flyover from Rajghat to the Nizamuddin carriageway. To avoid the stretch, they recommended commuters use an alternate route via Shanti Van, Rajghat, JLN Marg, and Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg.
The Yamuna’s water level has reached an all-time high. This monsoon has brought Delhi the most rain in decades.
