Delhi Police detained Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) leader Saurabh Das and co-convenor Ashutosh Ranka at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Tuesday.
The action reportedly followed the arrival of Das and several party members at the protest site to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
According to reports, some CJP members entered the area from the side of the Janata Dal (United) office premises before crossing a gate and proceeding towards Jantar Mantar. Police subsequently detained the members.
Authorities have yet to issue a detailed statement on the incident, while the possibility of registering an FIR has been reported.
Ranka shared a video on social media platform X showing people raising slogans of ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ and demanding Kumar’s resignation. CJP members reportedly intended to stage a demonstration over the issue.

Police had arrested Abhijeet Dipke, Saurabh Das and Ashutosh Ranka on Saturday ahead of a planned protest demanding the CEC’s resignation.
Delhi Police has since removed Jantar Mantar’s designated protest venue status and named Ramlila Ground, Burari Ground and CBD Ground as alternative sites.
The changes followed a Ministry of Home Affairs committee’s examination of alternative venues where citizens could exercise their right to organise protests while addressing security and law-and-order concerns.
The latest detention has renewed attention on CJP’s planned demonstrations and the police response.
The party members want to protest against Kumar, while the authorities are yet to clarify the specific grounds for Tuesday’s action or confirm whether they will register an FIR in the case.
