Delhi L-G (Lieutenant Governor) VK Saxena criticized the poor state of basic amenities in parts of the national capital, describing the living conditions of residents as “pathetic” during a visit to Rangpuri Pahari and Kapashera on Sunday.
Sharing visuals of overflowing sewers and deteriorating infrastructure on social media platform X, Saxena expressed deep disappointment. “It is extremely disturbing to witness the helplessness and miserable lives of lakhs of people in the capital,” he wrote, highlighting the plight of residents grappling with inadequate services.
The Delhi L-G called out terrain’s claims of free power and efficient public services, stating that residents reported prolonged power outages of 8-10 hours and inflated electricity bills. Complaints of irregular water supply, stinking alleys filled with sewage, and poor garbage disposal further underscored the grim reality.

“Women narrating their problems are from Delhi, not any other state,” Saxena remarked, pointing to the stark contrast between promises and on-ground realities.
South Delhi MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri and officials accompanied the L-G during his visit. In response to the issues, Saxena announced a cleanliness drive starting Monday and pledged to oversee efforts to ensure basic services for residents.
He urged Delhi Chief Minister Atishi and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal to visit these areas and take corrective measures. “We must come together to make Delhi great again,” he appealed.
Reacting to Saxena’s remarks, Kejriwal told the media, “We will address all the shortcomings identified by the L-G.” He added that the government is committed to resolving the issues raised.
The visit comes amid the Aam Aadmi Party’s campaign for the Delhi Assembly polls, where promises of welfare schemes and improved public services have taken center stage.
