The Delhi High Court has recently emphasized the need for expediting the process of sorting records in the district courts of Delhi.

In a recent directive, the court highlighted concerns regarding the condition of record rooms, stressing that the situation warrants immediate attention.

Acting Chief Justice, along with Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora, has directed all chief district and session judges of Delhi to closely monitor the progress of record sorting in their respective districts.

Additionally, authorities have urged them to take effective measures to address any shortcomings in this regard.

Acknowledging the seriousness of the issue, the High Court has emphasized the importance of regular monitoring alongside expediting the record sorting process.

The High Court administration informed the bench that it had already taken necessary steps in this regard.

  • Approximately 52,000 files cleared.
  • Active identification is currently underway for sorting a total of 191,512 files from January to March 2024.
  • Presently, 52,167 files successfully sorted.

The High Court’s directive is a proactive response to a public interest petition. It addresses concerns regarding the administrative process of document submission and application filing. The focus of the directive is on improving these processes within district courts for pending cases.

The bench further instructed all district judges and session judges to submit quarterly reports.

The High Court’s proactive approach underscores its commitment to ensuring the efficient functioning of the judicial system. It upholds the integrity of record management in district courts.
