The Delhi High Court is set to examine Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s petition contesting his arrest and detention by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the excise policy case.
The hearing, to be presided over by Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma, is scheduled for Wednesday. Kejriwal remains in ED custody until March 28, subsequent to his apprehension by the central agency concerning the Delhi excise policy case.
Despite his custody, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor continues to administer the government, as affirmed earlier. On Tuesday, he issued directives ensuring the availability of medicines and tests at all government hospitals and Mohalla Clinics, disclosed the city’s Health Minister, Saurabh Bharadwaj.
Minister Bharadwaj emphasized that Kejriwal’s recent directives underscore his persistent concern for the welfare of Delhi’s residents, even while in custody.
The case revolves around alleged irregularities and money laundering in formulating and executing the 2022 Delhi excise policy, subsequently nullified.
Kejriwal marks the third AAP leader, following Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh, to face arrest in connection with the excise policy case.
Sisodia, then Delhi’s deputy chief minister overseeing 18 out of 33 portfolios, was detained by the CBI on February 26 last year after extensive questioning. Subsequently, he faced ED arrest in a money laundering case. On October 5 of the same year, the ED apprehended Sanjay Singh, a sitting Rajya Sabha MP, in connection with the case.
