Delhi High Court
The Delhi High Court is set to convene on March 21 to deliberate on the contentious Delhi Health Bill 2022, a significant legislative proposal aimed at reforming the healthcare sector in the Indian capital. In a dramatic turn of events during the last hearing, the court summoned the Health Minister and Health Secretary of the Delhi Government to address apparent discrepancies in their involvement in the proceedings.
During the previous hearing, it came to light through an email correspondence received by the High Court that the Health Minister of the Delhi Government, Saurabh Bhardwaj, had not been called upon during discussions about the Delhi Health Bill 2022. This revelation raised concerns regarding procedural irregularities and the absence of key stakeholders in the deliberation process.

In response to this revelation, the Delhi High Court swiftly took action, ordering both Health Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj and Health Secretary S. B. Deepak Kumar to physically appear before the court. The decision to summon these high-ranking officials underscores the court’s commitment to ensuring transparency and accountability in the legislative process, particularly concerning matters as critical as public health.
The Delhi Health Bill 2022 holds significant implications for healthcare delivery and governance in the national capital. It seeks to introduce comprehensive reforms aimed at addressing the myriad challenges faced by the healthcare sector, including improving infrastructure, enhancing access to healthcare services, and strengthening regulatory mechanisms.
