The Delhi High Court has directed AIIMS to form a medical board to examine a married woman seeking to terminate her 32-week pregnancy with an abnormal fetus. Justice Sanjeev Narula ordered the petitioner to appear before the AIIMS medical board on Friday for a medical examination, with the hospital required to submit a report by July 13.

The court will consider the medical report on July 15. The woman petitioned the court for permission to terminate her pregnancy, citing abnormalities detected in the fetus during an ultrasound test on July 4. Her counsel, Amit Mishra, argued that four other laboratories confirmed the same results.

Given the advanced stage of pregnancy, the court expedited the process, directing AIIMS to file the report by July 13. The woman approached the court after doctors advised her to seek legal permission for the abortion. The court’s decision will determine the fate of the pregnancy, as Indian law requires court approval for abortions beyond 20 weeks.
