The Delhi High Court has directed Delhi Public School, Dwarka to reinstate the names of 26 students who were struck off the school’s rolls for non-payment of increased fees. The court ordered the school to reinstate the students who deposit 50% of the increased fees for the current session, pending a final judgment.

Justice Swarnakanta Sharma issued a notice to the Directorate of Education and the school, asking them to respond within two weeks. The parents had challenged the school’s decision to increase fees without permission from the Directorate of Education, calling it unfair.
The court’s order comes as a relief to the students who were facing disruption in their studies. The petitioners had sought directions to restore their children’s names and a direction to the school to charge only approved fees for the academic year. The court’s decision is a significant blow to the school’s administration, which had taken a tough stance against the parents who refused to pay the increased fees.
The matter will be hear next on July 30, and the court’s final judgment is expect to set a precedent for private schools in the national capital. The parents are seeking cancellation of the allotment of land to the school and takeover of its administration under the law.
