The Delhi High Court has kept the stay on the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) election results. It ruled that the vote count will not proceed until public property damaged during the election is cleaned. The court has summoned the candidates responsible. The next hearing is set for October 28. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and the Delhi government must submit fresh status reports.
Lawyer Disputes DU’s Report
Prashant Manchanda, representing student leaders, claimed the report filed by DU was misleading. He submitted his own status report with photos. He said 90% of the public property had been cleaned. Chief Justice Manmohan suggested action against those who caused the most damage. He questioned why the Delhi Metro Act was not enforced.
Court Criticizes Election Spending
Earlier, the court criticized the spending and chaos in the DUSU elections. It asked candidates to clean up posters and the campus to allow the vote count. The court noted that the election spending seemed excessive, even compared to general elections. It questioned the candidates’ actions and spending practices.
