Court Cites Progress and Technical Challenges
The Delhi High Court has dismissed a petition requesting expedited live-streaming of court proceedings. Justice Sanjeev Narula noted that the High Court is committed to improving transparency through incremental measures. He highlighted that imposing strict deadlines could be impractical due to technical and resource constraints. The court affirmed that there has been significant progress in live-streaming and ongoing efforts to enhance the system.
The court emphasized that the technical aspects of implementing live-streaming are best managed by the court’s designated judicial and technical committees. These committees are tasked with addressing technological needs and advancements.
Currently, live-streaming of Delhi High Court proceedings occurs on a case-by-case basis. This service is available for the Chief Justice Court and Court No. 39 only.
Rakesh Kumar Gupta filed the petition, urging the High Court to implement live-streaming in phases and expedite the process. Gupta also requested access to recordings of court proceedings similar to e-inspection.
