Delhi government advises people to avoid walks and physical activity in the face of pollution

The national capital’s residents are advised to abstain from morning walks and other physical activities due to air pollution

The national capital’s residents are advised to abstain from morning walks and other physical activities due to the current health emergency, according to a public health advisory on pollution released by Delhi’s health department on Saturday.

Published in newspapers on Saturday, the advisory enumerates steps Delhi residents can take to lessen the negative health effects of pollution.

It advised against exposing children, the elderly, pregnant women, and people with health issues to pollution.

People should “avoid places with high air pollution like slow and heavy traffic roads, areas near polluting industries, construction/demolition sites, etc.” according to the Delhi government in order to prevent exposure.

Additionally, it stated that people should abstain from physical activities such as jogging, running, and walks outside in the morning and late evening, “especially during days with severe AQI.”

The government issued an order prohibiting the use of tobacco products. It also asked people to refrain from burning wood, leaves, and crop residues, as well as repellent coils for mosquitoes.

It advised people to eat a balanced diet, regularly gargle with lukewarm water, and wash their eyes with water.

The advice continues, “Use public transportation or carpool; practice wet mopping instead of sweeping, inside homes and workplaces; consult a doctor in case of breathlessness, giddiness, cough, chest discomfort or pain, irritation in eyes (red or watery)”.

Up until Friday, when rain cleared the air in the city, Delhi had been experiencing extremely poor air quality for several days.

The city’s air quality index was 219 at seven in the morning on Saturday.

Following Diwali, the Delhi government is bracing for extremely high air quality in the nation’s capital.
