Delhi Experiences Strong Tremors Following 6.2 Magnitude Earthquake In Nepal

The tremors were strongly felt not only in Delhi but also across the National Capital Region (NCR).

Massive tremors struck Delhi today due to two earthquakes in Nepal, occurring within a 25-minute interval. The first earthquake, with a magnitude of 4.6, occurred at 2:25 pm, followed by a more powerful 6.2 magnitude quake at 2:51 pm, both at a depth of 5 km. The National Centre for Seismology reported the second earthquake’s details: “Magnitude: 6.2, Date: 03-10-2023, Time: 14:51:04 IST, Location: Nepal (Lat: 29.39, Long: 81.23), Depth: 5 Km.”

The tremors were strongly felt not only in Delhi but also across the National Capital Region (NCR). Residents in Delhi-NCR evacuated high-rise buildings and offices. Delhi Police issued a statement urging people to stay safe and avoid elevators, providing the emergency number 112 for assistance.

Reports indicate that tremors were also felt in areas of Uttar Pradesh such as Lucknow, Hapur, and Amroha, along with parts of Uttarakhand, in the aftermath of the Nepal earthquakes. Social media was inundated with videos of people evacuating buildings as soon as the tremors were felt in the national capital.
