Delhi Court Extends Arvind Kejriwal’s Judicial Custody In Money Laundering Case

In a significant development in the ongoing legal proceedings, a Delhi court has extended the judicial custody of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal till 3 July in connection with a money laundering case linked to an alleged excise policy scam.

Vacation Judge Nyay Bindu passed the order today amidst ongoing arguments on Kejriwal’s bail plea.

The extension comes after Special Judge Kaveri Baweja recently dismissed an interim bail plea filed by Kejriwal, who sought temporary release on medical grounds.

The court session also addressed Kejriwal’s application requesting permission for his wife, Sunita Kejriwal, to participate in his medical check-ups via video conferencing from Tihar Jail.

Additionally, Kejriwal requested inclusion in the board meetings where they discuss his medical reports.

Earlier, during the hearing on his interim bail plea, the court had directed specific diagnostic tests for Kejriwal, who attended the proceedings via video conference due to his current detention.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta and Additional Solicitor General S V Raju, representing the Enforcement Directorate (ED), argued against granting bail to Kejriwal, citing alleged misuse of interim bail for campaign purposes.

In response, Kejriwal’s defense team, led by senior advocate N Hariharan, highlighted the CM’s deteriorating health condition, including aggravated diabetes, as grounds necessitating interim bail.

Arvind Kejriwal voluntarily surrendered before Tihar Jail authorities on 2 June, following the conclusion of his interim bail granted earlier by the Supreme Court in light of general elections.

The next hearing on Kejriwal’s bail plea and related applications is scheduled for later this month.
