Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced on Friday that he will surrender on 2 June at 3 PM as his interim bail, granted by the Supreme Court for election campaigning, ends on 1 June.
“Today marks the completion of the 21 days given by the Supreme Court. Day after tomorrow, I will return to Tihar Jail,” stated CM Kejriwal in a virtual press conference from the national capital.
Expressing resilience, Kejriwal said, “I don’t know how long they will keep me in jail. My spirits are high. I am proud to go to jail to protect the country from dictatorship. They tried to break me in many ways, but they were not successful.”
Criticizing the BJP, he added, “When I was in jail, they stopped my medicines. I have been a serious diabetes patient for 20 years, relying on insulin injections. My sugar levels reached 300 to 325 because they withheld my injections. High sugar levels can damage the kidneys and liver. I lost 6 kgs during my 50 days in jail. When I entered, my weight was 70 kg; now it is 64 kg.”
Kejriwal mentioned that despite being out of jail, he has not regained the lost weight, with doctors suggesting further tests for possible serious illness.
“I will surrender the day after tomorrow at 3 PM. They may harass me more, but I will not bow down,” he said, urging people to take care of his elderly parents while he is imprisoned.
On Thursday, a Delhi court issued a notice to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) seeking its response to Kejriwal’s regular bail plea related to a money laundering case involving the alleged excise policy scam.
