The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a severe cold wave in Delhi for the second week of January. Temperatures may dip as low as 5 degrees Celsius. On Wednesday, the minimum temperature is likely to hover around 8 degrees Celsius, while the maximum may not exceed 16 degrees Celsius. Residents should prepare for colder days and take necessary precautions.
Meanwhile, Delhi’s air quality continues to decline. The Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 322 on Wednesday, placing it in the “very poor” category, according to the Central Government’s Sameer app. Other cities in the National Capital Region (NCR) reported slightly better AQI levels. Noida recorded 176, Greater Noida 192, Ghaziabad 212, Gurugram 229, and Faridabad 196.
Health experts recommend limiting outdoor activities, especially for children and individuals with respiratory conditions. Prolonged exposure to polluted air can worsen symptoms and affect overall health.
The IMD predicts clear skies for Wednesday, with wind speeds reaching 28 km/h and humidity levels around 28%. The sun rose at 7:15 a.m. and will set at 5:40 p.m., offering limited daylight hours. For Thursday, January 9, the IMD expects a slight rise in temperatures. The minimum may increase to 13.56 degrees Celsius, while the maximum could reach 22.37 degrees Celsius. Humidity levels may drop to 17%, creating dry and crisp conditions.
IMD’s seven-day forecast suggests fluctuating weather patterns in Delhi. Residents should expect varying temperatures, humidity levels, and clear or partly cloudy skies. Transitioning into the cold wave, it is crucial to stay updated with daily weather alerts and adjust routines accordingly.
The IMD urges residents to take measures against cold and poor air quality. Vulnerable groups, including children and the elderly, should avoid outdoor activities during peak pollution hours. Using air purifiers and wearing masks can reduce exposure to pollutants.
As Delhi battles both the cold wave and rising pollution, staying informed can help residents navigate these challenges while ensuring their health and safety.
