The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for Cyclone ‘Michaung,’ gaining strength over the Bay of Bengal and South Andaman Sea. It is expected to make landfall between Andhra Pradesh’s Nellore and Machilipatnam on Tuesday with winds reaching up to 100 kmph.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy of assistance and instructed officials to be prepared. The Puducherry government declared a holiday for colleges, and response teams in various states are on standby. Over 100 State Disaster Response Team members have reached Tamil Nadu’s Kanchipuram district.

Heavy rainfall is predicted in north coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, and Odisha till December 6. Fishermen are advised to stay off certain coasts, and those at sea are asked to return within 12 hours.
