A gunfight in Manipur’s Jiribam district on Sunday resulted in the death of one Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel and injuries to another CRPF jawan and two state police commandos. The incident began at around 9:30 am in Mongbung and Seijang villages, where armed miscreants engaged in a firefight with combined state and central security forces.
CRPF driver Ajay Kumar Jha, 43, from Bihar, was fatally shot in the forehead and evacuated to Jiribam district hospital, where he was declared brought dead. Another CRPF jawan was injured in the leg, and two Manipur commandos also sustained bullet injuries. All injured personnel are receiving treatment at Jiribam district hospital. The gunfight concluded at approximately 11:30 am.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh condemned the attack, suspected to have been carried out by Kuki militants. He expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery to the injured. “I strongly condemn the killing of a CRPF personnel in an attack carried out by an armed group, suspected to be Kuki militants, in Jiribam district today. His supreme sacrifice in the line of duty shall not go in vain. I further extend my sincere condolences to the bereaved family of the deceased soldier, while praying for the speedy recovery of the ones injured during the attack,” he said on X.
