The court has given the Enforcement Directorate (ED) until August 21 to file a reply on Vibhav Kumar’s bail plea. Authorities arrested Kumar for assaulting Aam Aadmi Party’s Rajya Sabha MP and former Delhi Women’s Commission Chairperson, Swati Maliwal. The court will hear the case next on August 27.
In the last hearing, the judge condemned Kumar’s actions, calling it shameful to assault a woman. The judge reprimanded Kumar, questioning if the Chief Minister’s residence is for harboring goons. The judge stated that Kumar behaved like a goon and assaulted Maliwal despite her explaining her physical condition.
The judge criticized Kumar’s lack of shame in attacking a woman and remarked that while the court usually grants bail, this case involves the moral issue of assaulting a woman MP. The judge questioned how the incident occurred, noting that Maliwal had asked Kumar to stop, but he did not. The judge pointed out that as the former secretary, Kumar had no more right to be there than the victim.
Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing Kumar, noted that the authorities registered the FIR three days after the incident and initially returned it without filing. When the judge questioned Singhvi about the charge sheet, he said Kumar filed the petition before the charge sheet.
