Continuously Contributing To Nation-Building: Amit Shah On Arya Samaj Foundation Day

Union Home Minister Amit Shah marked the foundation day of Arya Samaj, highlighting its continued role in social reform and nation-building.

Taking to X, Shah posted, “The ‘Arya Samaj’, established by Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati Ji with the aim of returning to Vedic wisdom and building a society free from evil practices, is continuously contributing to nation-building. Through education and service, it is giving a new direction to society.”

“Heartfelt congratulations on the foundation day of Arya Samaj,” the post further read.

Arya Samaj, founded by Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati in 1875 in Bombay, emerged as one of the most influential reform movements of 19th-century India, seeking to revive Vedic thought and challenge entrenched social practices.

The organisation positioned itself as a collective of individuals committed to truth, rationality and ethical living, drawing its philosophical foundation from the Vedas.

Over time, the movement played a significant role in promoting education, opposing social evils such as caste-based discrimination and practices rooted in superstition, and encouraging a return to what it viewed as original Vedic principles.

Its emphasis on reform, social responsibility and intellectual inquiry contributed to a broader process of renewal within Hindu society.

Through its network of institutions and outreach efforts, Arya Samaj has continued to advocate values centred on knowledge, service and social upliftment, shaping discourse on reform and identity in modern India.
