The Congress slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday over claimed job insecurity, accusing him of destroying governance by personalizing it and lowering it to “new lows” through his ‘Rozgar Melas’.

The Opposition party also stated that the country’s job-seeking youth are aware that the prime minister had destroyed lakhs and lakhs of jobs.

The Congress’ attack came after Modi gave out appointment letters to nearly 71,000 persons during a ‘Rozgar Mela’ on Tuesday.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge tweeted, “Modi ji who promised to provide 2 Cr jobs annually, in 9 years, has shattered the dreams of 18 Cr youth so far. 30 lakh posts are vacant in government departments, but today an event has been organized to distribute only 71,000 recruitment letters! Congress party will give a befitting reply to the betrayal of the youth!” through his official Twitter handle.

Jairam Ramesh, Congress general secretary also condemned PM Modi for the ‘Rozgar Melas’, adding that he had destroyed governance by personalizing governance like never before.

Mr. Jairam Ramesh tweeted, “By personalising governance like never before, this PM has destroyed governance. He has taken it to new lows through his Rozgar Melas—as if he has personally created these jobs as if he is personally paying those getting these jobs, and as if those getting these jobs should feel beholden to him and him alone. The job-seeking youth in this country know it is this PM who has destroyed lakhs and lakhs of jobs—both in govt and private sector—through demonetisation, flawed GST, crippling of MSMEs, and wholesale privatisation of PSUs. The PM claims to be a self-made man. Clearly, he is obsessed with the man who has made him”, through his official Twitter handle.

As he distributed appointment letters to over 71,000 persons at the ‘Rozgar Mela’ on Tuesday, Prime Minister Modi said that modifications implemented by his government in the recruitment procedure had eliminated the possibility of corruption and nepotism.

He elaborated on the employment prospects and infrastructure development ushered by the BJP dispensation at the Centre in the last nine years, saying that the entire process has been made online, from applying for government positions to the announcement of results.
