The Congress party has demanded a special session of Parliament to condemn the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.
Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh urged the government to act on the Opposition’s call for unity.
Ramesh cited the 1994 precedent when both Houses of Parliament unanimously passed a resolution affirming that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India.
He also shared the 1994 resolution, which declared J&K inseparable from India and condemned any attempts to divide it.
Taking to X, Ramesh posted, “On Feb 22, 1994, both Houses of Parliament had passed a resolution unanimously on J&K. The time has come to reiterate, renew, and refresh it – and more. The Union Government should heed the call of the Leaders of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha and convene a special session of the Parliament at the earliest.”

The resolution stated India would resist all efforts to separate J&K and asked Pakistan to vacate the occupied areas of the state. It reaffirmed India’s right to counter all threats to its sovereignty and integrity.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi also wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They requested a special session of both Houses of Parliament.
In his April 28 letter, Gandhi said, “The terrorist attack in Pahalgam has outraged every Indian. We must show unity against terrorism.”
Kharge echoed this, calling the session a ‘powerful demonstration of our collective resolve’. He referred to the April 22 attack that killed innocent citizens in Pahalgam.
Congress leaders believe the session would send a clear message of unity and strength. They want all parties to stand together in Parliament against terrorism.
