PM Narendra Modi will chair a high-stakes meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) on Wednesday, aiming to finalise India’s next course of action against Pakistan.
This will be the second CCS meeting held within a week following the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, which killed 26 people.
PM Modi Prepares To Decide Stronger Measures
With national anger mounting over the brutal killings by suspected Pakistan-backed terrorists and repeated ceasefire violations along the Line of Control (LoC), the CCS will reportedly consider both military and strategic responses.
Officials familiar with the matter said the meeting could lead to key decisions aimed at avenging the attack and deterring future cross-border aggression.
Pakistan Denies Involvement; Warns Of Retaliation
The CCS meeting is taking place amid heightened tensions, with Pakistan denying involvement in the Pahalgam carnage and warning of a ‘strong response’ to India’s recent retaliatory steps, including suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty.
PM Modi Chaired First CCS Meeting
In the immediate aftermath of the attack, PM Modi chaired the first CCS meeting on April 23.
During that session, the committee announced a range of diplomatic measures designed to isolate Pakistan and signal India’s firm stance against state-sponsored terrorism.
Key decisions taken in the April 23 CCS meeting included:
- Suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty
- Closure of the Attari Integrated Check Post in Punjab
- Cancellation of the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme for Pakistani nationals
- Expulsion of Pakistani diplomats, declaring them persona non grata
- Reduction in diplomatic staff at Pakistan’s embassy in India
Terror Attack Seen As Attempt To Disrupt Kashmir’s Progress
The CCS noted that the Pahalgam attack aimed to disrupt Jammu and Kashmir’s development and recent successful elections.
In response, Indian security forces were directed to maintain the highest level of vigilance along sensitive zones and borders.
India’s Stand: Isolate And Hold Pakistan Accountable
The Indian government remains committed to bringing the perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack to justice and holding their sponsors across the border accountable.
Officials said India’s response signals a shift toward isolating Pakistan globally unless it ends support for terrorism.
The nation awaits the CCS meeting, expecting decisive action to uphold India’s zero-tolerance policy on terrorism.
