Congress MP Ravneet Singh Bittu made a significant move on Tuesday by joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) just ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. In a press conference held in New Delhi, the Ludhiana MP expressed his admiration for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, stating that they have shown considerable affection towards Punjab.
He highlighted their responsiveness to Punjab’s issues, stating, “I am thankful to PM Narendra Modi…I can say with confidence that PM Modi and the Union Home Minister share a lot of love for Punjab and they wish to do a lot for the state…Why should Punjab be left behind?…”

Reflecting on the turbulent times of terrorism in Punjab, Bittu commended the efforts of the BJP and the RSS in promoting peace in the state. BJP general secretary Vinod Tawde expressed confidence that Bittu’s inclusion would strengthen the party.

Bittu’s political lineage adds weight to his decision, being the grandson of former Punjab chief minister Beant Singh and the son of former Punjab minister Tej Parkash Singh. His decision to join the BJP coincided with the party’s announcement of contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha elections independently in Punjab.
“The BJP is going to contest the Lok Sabha elections alone,” stated Punjab BJP chief Sunil Jakhar in a video message posted on X. Bittu’s inclusion in the BJP comes shortly after his involvement in the 27-member Punjab unit’s Pradesh Election Committee established in January.
