Congress Crisis in Himachal Resolved as CM Sukhu Acknowledges Areas for Improvement, Says DK Shivakumar

Karnataka deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar, who was sent to Himachal Pradesh as one of the Congress’ observers amid the political unrest, stated on Thursday that Himachal Pradesh chief minister (CM) Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has acknowledged that there was a failure of some kind among the government and MLAs during the Rajya Sabha elections, and that a five- to six-member coordination committee between the party and the government has been established to address the matter.

Shivakumar informed the reporters that the observers had spoken with each party MLA separately and that there would be another round of talks at a later time. He added that the government will serve out its entire five-year term and is safe.

“Our CM accepted that some failure has happened. But it will not continue further. We have spoken to all the MLAs personally. We have spoken to the PCC president, CM. One round of discussion will happen later. So all of them have sorted out all their differences. They’ll work together… We are forming a coordination committee between the party and the government with five to six members….They will all work together to save the party and save the government,” Shivakumar said.

The Congress observer further said that Sukhu will remain the chief minister.

“Congress government is there and Sukhu is the CM. All the MLAs want Congress government for 5 years…No operation Lotus here,” he added.

Himachal Pradesh’s political unrest began when the BJP asserted that the Sukhu-led government was in minority after the former defeated the Congress in an election tainted by cross-voting to win the state’s lone Rajya Sabha seat.

Sukhu asserted, nevertheless, that his government was in the majority and would serve out its entire five-year term. Bhupesh Baghel, DK Shivakumar, and Bhupinder Hooda were sent by the Congress as observers to address the party’s MLAs and subsequently provide a report to President Mallikarjun Kharge.
Congress top brass remains puzzled over the actions of Congress MLA Vikramaditya Singh, who resigned and then withdrew his resignation. Although Singh insisted he wouldn’t pursue the matter of his resignation, he declined to attend a breakfast meeting that Sukhu had organized.
