Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath paid heartfelt tributes to Syama Prasad Mookerjee on the occasion of his death anniversary, observed as ‘Balidan Diwas’.
Describing Mookerjee as a ‘great son of Bharat Mata’, the Chief Minister recalled his supreme sacrifice in 1953 for the unity and integrity of the nation.
Addressing a tribute event in Lucknow, CM Adityanath hailed Mookerjee as a visionary leader, celebrated educationist, and patriot who laid the ideological foundation of a strong and united India.
“As a Cabinet Minister in independent India, Mookerjee contributed significantly to national development. Yet, he did not hesitate to resign from Pandit Nehru’s Cabinet when national unity was at risk,” he stated.

Role in shaping nationalist politics
Highlighting Mookerjee’s pivotal role in Indian politics, Adityanath noted that as the founder and first president of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, Mookerjee introduced a new stream of politics rooted in cultural nationalism.
He fiercely opposed Article 370, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir, and entered the region without a permit in protest, actions that ultimately led to his arrest and death in custody.
The Chief Minister asserted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi fulfilled Mookerjee’s long-cherished dream by abrogating Article 370 in 2019.
“It took nearly 65 years, but under PM Modi’s leadership, this vision has finally become a reality,” he said. “The removal of Article 370 stands as a symbol of Mookerjee’s idea of ‘Ek Bharat, Akhand Bharat, Surakshit Bharat’.”
PM Modi & BJP leaders pay homage
Prime Minister Modi paid tribute, praising Mookerjee’s courage and contribution to India’s unity and nation-building.
JP Nadda called Mookerjee the ‘pioneer of cultural nationalism’ who gave everything for India’s unity and dignity.
The BJP stated that Mookerjee died to integrate Kashmir with the rest of India.
His legacy shapes the party’s stance on national unity and territorial integrity.
