He paid floral tribute to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, on his birth anniversary during the ceremony.
The Mahatma Gandhi Institute, established jointly by India and Mauritius, symbolises shared heritage, cultural cooperation, and collective historical responsibility.
Justice Gavai is on a three-day official visit to Mauritius, reinforcing judicial and cultural ties between both nations.
Mauritius ministers, parliamentarians, junior ministers, and senior officials participated actively, honouring Gandhi’s enduring message of peace, non-violence, and truth.
The Hon. Kaviraj Sharma Sukon, Minister of Tertiary Education, Science and Research, attended alongside Chief Justice Gavai. The Hon. Mahend Gungapersad, Minister of Education and Human Resources, also participated, highlighting educational cooperation between India and Mauritius.
Shri Anurag Srivastava(Indian diplomat of the Indian Foreign Service), High Commissioner of India and senior officials also participated in the ceremony.
Other dignitaries, including Members of Parliament and senior Mauritian officials, joined, adding depth, reverence, and solidarity to the occasion.
The ceremony blended solemnity and vibrancy, featuring floral tributes, cultural reflections, and tributes to Gandhi’s universal ideals of humanity.
