People across India have lauded Union Home Minister Amit Shah for launching a robust nationwide drug disposal campaign.
During the second National Conference of the Heads of Anti‑Narcotics Task Forces (ANTFs), Shah unveiled a multi‑pronged strategy targeting supply chains, reducing demand, and emphasising humane harm reduction.
Today, at the ANTF Heads conference in New Delhi, inaugurated the drug disposal program to be undertaken till the 30th of September. Under this program today destroyed 1.37 lakh kilograms of drugs valued approximately ₹4,800 crore across 11 locations.

The destruction of 1.37 lakh kg of narcotics valued at ₹4,800 crore at 11 locations has been widely welcomed by citizens for its scale and clarity of purpose.
In numerous states, people commended the campaign’s scope. Many said Shah’s vow to go after not just small drug peddlers but entire cartels, and to dismantle interstate and entry‑point networks, showed determination long called for.
Ordinary citizens have expressed relief, saying this could finally break the impunity of syndicates that have thrived for too long.
Tools, Tech, and Transparency Win Praise
The minister’s call for using advanced tools, including darknet analysis, cryptocurrency tracking, and machine learning, has impressed many, especially in urban youth and tech‑aware communities.
They see this as bringing modern methods into law enforcement. The involvement of state police and ANTFs, with clear directives to devote ’12 days a year’ to anti‑narcotics operations, has also earned approval for its seriousness and continuity.
Millions of people and thousands of institutions actively participate in the ongoing Drug-Free India campaign across 372 districts, earning widespread praise for its inclusive approach.
Citizens remark that it’s no longer just a government slogan; the destruction operations and measurable results have given it legitimacy. Many hope the campaign will expand its reach.
In towns and cities, people asked for sustained action. Pharmacy owners, educators, parents, and local community leaders applauded the move, saying it addressed a pressing concern.
“Finally, they are attacking the roots of the problem instead of just the symptoms,” said one teacher.
Another mother said that hearing of such large‑scale destruction brings hope for safer streets and healthier futures for children.
While people are praising the current measures, many express hope that the momentum will be maintained.
They want regular operations, strict monitoring of synthetic drug labs, and more awareness‑raising, especially in rural and border districts.
Citizens also urge that treaties, extradition, and punishment for traffickers be strengthened.
